History
Young men with a large career are The Son Jarocho group called Estanzuela, they’ve got a great experience
in the art of playing Mexican traditional music. Each and every one of the musicians has walked the
Son Jarocho Path since childhood, and nowadays Estanzuela is a great group which represents our great
culture and popular tradition.
Eleven years ago, in 1997 established as a group, was Estanzuela’s first time in the stage during the
Jarana (folk guitar) Players Meeting due to the Candelaria Virgin Holydays in Tlacotalpan, Veracruz.
Since then, the group has been in the stage for meetings, regional festivals around the country and
even in other countries.
The name “Estanzuela” is because of the ancient cattle dealer hacienda that was located nearby the Las
Mariposas River, this hacienda had its golden years in the XVII century and until the beginning of the
XIX century in Tlacotalpan, Veracruz, where this group is from.
Besides, since 1997, every Sunday night, around the Tarima (wood box), in the traditional Zaragoza
square in Tlacotalpan, the Estanzuela’s Jaranas sound has preserved and revitalized this Sotavento’s
(Sotavento is a region in Veracruz state) Tradition; the young boys had left the Fandango
(name given to the musicians meeting to play around the tarima with no stage), sometimes due to the
adult population disinterestedness to preserve traditions and musical identity from Veracruz.
Also, the group has been accomplishing a very important cause to promote and teach traditional music
known as Son Jarocho and the art of making musical instruments, called Lauderia (Lauderia is the art
to make Jarana and Requinto guitars) under Julio Cesar Corro Lara direction.
